An official said the Indonesian Railway company (KAI) would deploy 305 trains — 40 more than the scheduled 265 — during this year Idul Fitri holidays.
“We intend to operate 305 trains and ease highway traffic despite the recent predictions that the number of public transportation passengers would only reach 0.26 percent this year,” Railway director general, Tundjung Inderawan, said as quoted by Tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
Last year, the Transportation Ministry reported that 11.3 million people took advantage of the Idul Fitri exodus and 1.8 million of them went by train.(hrl/dic)
